BIO-MECHANICAL TREATMENT PLANTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT FROM INDUCED TRAFFIC

In the frame of municipal solid waste management, one of the aspects to be taken

into account for comparative analyses is the role of traffic for waste transportation. To this

concern the waste pre-treatment could change the environmental and cost balances compared

with the conventional scenario based on burning on grate system. The present paper gives a

contribution to the understanding of advantages and disadvantages of the strategies based on biomechanical

municipal solid waste pre-treatment, in particular bio-drying, referring to the traffic

aspects
