Denmark – new information campaign on recycling batteries takes off in Copenhagen

It is the Copenhagen based incineration and disposal companies Amagerforbrænding, Vestforbrænding and R98 that have initiated the campaign which is to become national. The objective is to inform about grading of batteries and where it is possible for citizens to hand-in their used batteries. Accordingly the campaign is entitled ‘‘Bring on the Batteries‘‘ or in Danish; ‘‘Hit med batterierne‘‘.

The Danes account for 80 million batteries annually and most of these are hazardous waste. This is why it is important that the batteries are collected and accordingly graded. The new campaign is developed in order to enable the participating municipalities to adjust the information campaign according to own specific needs.

Different elements have been introduced as part of the campaign and these can be used either separately or together. The principal part of the project is the so-called ‘‘Battery Bag‘‘. The bag is sent out to every household in the participating municipality for citizens to collect their used batteries hand-in these at specified locations in every municipality
