Egypt’s Waste Management Regulatory Authority has approved its draft budget for 2026/2027 and unveiled sweeping reforms to tighten oversight of the sector, including separating licences by waste type across municipal, industrial, agricultural, and marine categories. The overhaul, chaired by Minister Manal Awad, aims to curb informal operations through stricter licensing, electronic tracking of waste flows, and enhanced enforcement — building on the authority’s existing portfolio of around 2,300 issued licences. New rules will also govern licence renewal calculations and set fees for environmental impact assessments, strengthening Egypt’s capacity to regulate waste management more transparently.
