The European paper industry has been working for several years to improve the traceability of recovered paper and has launched a major new initiative – the European Recovered Paper Identification System. The system allows the identification of recovered paper recycled in paper mills and meets both the current and expected legal requirements of waste traceability.
Every member in the recovered paper chain is required to keep track of their supplier and the system starts at the suppliers‘‘ sources and ends at the conveyor to the paper pulper. This will improve both the supply and quality of paper delivered to paper mills, and further reduce environmental costs. By recommending this system, the sector further contributes to the European Commission‘‘s aim of making the EU a recycling society.
