New Jersey has become the 14th state to legalize human composting, following Governor Murphy’s recent bill signing. The new law allows bodies to be transformed into nutrient-rich soil in about six weeks, though implementation will take 10 months as the funeral industry prepares. The practice has gained support from the NJ State Funeral Directors Association, which notes growing interest in green alternatives for end-of-life planning.
