India – Delhi plans to use waste plastics in road construction

The Delhi State Industrial Development Corporation (DSIDC) is planning to use plastic waste to construct roads in the city. Times of India reports that iIt is also planning a host of measures to protect city‘‘s environment. The DSIDC managing director Jalaj Shrivastava announced that a proposed joint venture will combine state-of-the-art road longevity technology with city‘‘s compulsions for management of non-biodegradable plastic waste, so as to promote a cleaner and greener Delhi.



The DSIDC is planning a 15-acre Ecological Park and a 200-acre Knowledge Park. Another proposal, along the lines of Jurong Bird Park in Singapore, entails setting up of a small water body in Bawana Industrial area in west Delhi to attract various species of birds and fish. In a bid to give a fillip to the jewellery industry, DSIDC proposes to set up an Assaying Centre to certify the quality of gold. At present, almost all jewellery in India is sold without hallmark seal. Also, with a view to capitalise on the growing market for diamonds and precious stone studded jewellery industry, DSIDC plans to create a centre that will provide infrastructure and necessary facilities for manufacturers and exporters, and also in-house training to upgrade skill
