Integrated Sustainable Waste Management – A set of five tools for Decision-makers – Experiences from the Urban Waste Expertise Programme (1995 – 2001)

This series of Tools for Decision-makers on Integrated Sustainable Waste Management(ISWM) presents a different approach to municipal waste management. A ISWM is a concept, analytic framework and assessment that pays attention to aspects often neglected in convetional muncipal waste management.
ISWM covers institutional, social, environmental, political, technical and financial aspects, while emphasising the critical role that a variety of stakeholders – including waste pickers, women and micro – and small enterprises – play every day in waste management operations such as collection, treatment, reuse, recycling and prevention.
