ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
ISWA and WMAM – the Waste Management Association of Malaysia cordially invite you to join the ISWA Beacon Conference on Waste to Energy Facilities in Emerging and Developing Economies: Challenges and Options taking place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 16 to 17 April 2015.
As the world population grows so does waste generation. The Asian Region offers exciting prospects in terms of development of emerging and developing economies. Countries such as Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam have seen a fast phase of economic and social growth and urbanisation over the past decades and in the years to come. It is reported that by year 2050, some 1.4 billion more people are expected to be living in Asian cities compared to today. Hence, the challenges of waste generation, collection, treatment and disposal.
Take Malaysia as a classic example. As a developing economy, the country is marching towards becoming a developed nation by year 2020. Nevertheless Malaysia’s waste generated, which currently stands at some 33,000 tonnes daily, has surpassed the Government’s projection that the tonnage will be reached by year 2020.
With land being a finite resource, the ever increasing waste generated requires a long-term sustainable solution especially with regards to treatment and disposal. The advent of “green” Waste-To-Energy (WTE) Technologies is one area in which emerging and developing economies can adopt towards a sustainable environment.
The Beacon Conference on April 16 & 17, 2015 organised by WMAM and supported by ISWA, where some of the best practices and experience sharing on WTE will be presented by renowned speakers on the subject, hopes to provide participants with some answers and solutions for managing waste treatment and disposal best suited for emerging economies.
