Landfill Gas Recovery: an Important Alternative Energy Resource for Developing Countries

This paper describes the experience held in the city of Rio de Janeiro, where a very simple biogas recovery and utilization system has been installed in an old landfill. Around 130 vehicules from the waste management company has been converted for biogas use, substituting either the diesel oil, gasoline and alcohol previously used by these cars and trucks
