Pittsburgh startup aims to make food waste recycling easy and affordable

Pittsburgh’s landscape is transforming with colorful shipping containers housing Zero Emission Upcycling Systems (ZEUS). These innovative units, created by Ecotone Renewables, convert food waste into liquid fertilizer and renewable energy through anaerobic digestion. With food waste contributing to roughly 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions, this Carnegie Mellon University spinoff is tackling a significant environmental problem while offering clients a cost-effective alternative to traditional waste disposal.
