The Earth Engineering Center (EEC) of Columbia University in collaboration with WTERT/Greece and the Institute of Sanitation & Waste Management (ISWM) of Ghana are pleased to invite you to an interdisciplinary course and workshop will take place in Accra, Ghana, at the campus of KNUST-ISWM (May 26th-30th, 2014). This 5-day intensive course will focus on state of the art technologies for advancing sustainable waste management in Africa and will encompass the full hierarchy of waste management from materials recovery (recycling) to energy recovery (Waste-to-Energy or WTE), and sanitary landfilling with methane capture.
The organizing committee for this course are Prof. Nickolas Themelis (Columbia University) and Dr. Efstratios Kalogirou (GWC). The instructors include Profs. Franz Neubacher (UV&P, Austria), Efstratios Kalogirou (GWC and WTERT-Greece), Carlo Vandecasteele (Katholieke Universiteit, Belgium), and faculty from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science &Technology, Kumasi-Ghana.
This course and workshop is designed for professionals in the waste management industry, environmental agencies in the West African region, government agencies, MMDA’s, companies planning and executing waste management projects, researchers and university students, and other professionals wishing to increase their understanding in this field.
