Talking bin tackles littering by thanking users

A “talking” 570-litre smart bin has been installed in a layby on the A303 near Upottery as part of a trial to tackle roadside litter. The high-tech bin compacts waste, sends automated alerts to council teams when full, and even thanks drivers with a courtesy message. National Highways and East Devon District Council hope the initiative will significantly reduce roadside litter and cut the millions spent annually on clearance costs.
