A process in which there is substantial regeneration of the rubber
compound to its original plastic state, thus permitting the product to be processed, compounded
or wlcanized. Combined sulfur is not affected. True devulcanization of vulcanized rubber with
regeneration of the original rubber and removal of combined sulfur has not been accomplisl~ed.
The term is synonymous with reclaiming of vulcanized scrap rubber. It is primarily a
depolymerization accompanied by some oxidation.
