Ghana – plastic waste management task force inaugurated

The Ghana Minister of Trade, Industry and President’s Special Initiatives, Mr. Alan Kyeremanten has inaugurated a private sector-led Plastic Waste Management Task Force, which is to contribute to the proper management of the plastic waste problem in Ghana.



The Task Force comprises representatives of:

National Association of Sachet Water Producers

Ghana National Association of Manufacturers of Plastics’

Importers of Plastic Products

Users of Plastic Products

Recyclers of Plastic Wastes

Public sector institutions and agencies supporting the Task Force are:

Ministry of Trade, Industry and President’s Special Initiative

Ministry of Environment and Science

Ministry of Tourism and Modernisation of the Capital City

Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development

Accra Metropolitan Assembly

The Associations have agreed as a demonstration of their commitment to work with the Task Force, to pay various levies to finance its operations throughout the country. The National Plastic Waste Management Task Force, under the chairmanship of Mrs. Charlotte Anumel of the National Association of Sachet Water Producers, will perform the following functions, among others:



Divide the country into convenient zones for plastic waste management Mobilize resources, technical and financial, from the various groups for its work Provide litterbins at strategic locations for plastic waste collection and disposal Support plastic recycling and incineration Support the education of the general public on proper utilization and disposal of plastics Discharge any other functions that will contribute to the abatement of the plastic waste menace
