More recycling due to furniture wood combustion research

A project to encourage more sustainable waste management practices in the UK furniture manufacturing industry is underway, thanks to a £93,254 grant from Biffaward, a multi-million pound environment fund managed by RSNC, which utilises landfill tax credits donated by Biffa Waste Services.



BFM Ltd aim to look at more sustainable waste management practices for wood waste, and in particular, investigate how on-site wood combustion units can be optimised to reduce emissions and the amount of wood waste disposed of to landfill.



Biffaward funding will enable the project to produce benchmarking and best practice information on boiler use and control, in order to optimise boiler performance. By ensuring that energy is properly utilised and emissions are minimised the project will also seek to make wood combustion a more sustainable waste management option. The findings of the project will be disseminated via a report which will be circulated to all BFM and TRADA member companies, participants in the project that contributed data and those with a known interest in wood combustion.
